Medspa Legal & Legislation > Can naturopathic doctors supervise mid-level providers with prescribing rights?

I am considering going into business with a naturopathic doctor, but I am unclear if they have prescribing rights, can supervise MA, RN, NP, or if they have to under my malpractice insurance. Please advise.

First, don't take anything you read on the web as legal advice. Not good.
However, I think it's pretty clear you're going to have to contact the state where you are and check. It used to be really hard but states are much more familiar with nonsurgical practices and you should be able to get a pretty clear answer.

Sorry, but there's a little legwork involved. : |

I am not an attorney, but here is my understanding...

The practice of medicine is regulated by your states Board of Medical Examiners,
To my knowledge, most states only allow MD's or DO's (Allopathic or Osteopathic) PHYSICIANS to supervise a NP or PA. A naturopathic doctor, such as a Chiropractor, is not a PHYSICIAN, and can not supervise a NP or PA. Nor are they allowed to write prescriptions for medications (FDA regulated) or perform surgery.
