Medical Spa Business Forum > Should I offer free treatments for staff members?

Looking for comments /feedback on Staff Benefits. Of course we all know that performing treatments on our nurses, estheticians, laser techs will allow them to be walking/talking advertisement for the practice, however, it takes my time and money to provide these treatments. Does everyone provide free cosmetic treatments (Botox, fillers, Fraxel, etc..) to staff members? If yes--how often is reasonable.

There is something to be said about people appreciating/valuing a product/procedure when they have invested something even if just cost. Also what is general consensus on fees for retail products--presently they get it for cost? What about friend/family discounts?

Hi Mp-

I've been in the spa/medical spa business for 8 years as a manager/director, and free treatments for the staff was only an issue when it wasn't being properly managed. When I hired a newbie- whether it was a nurse, doctor or front desk concierge, their training included a sample of all the treatments we offered (non-surgical only). Unless they contested (which then I would think about my hiring decision)- they also received Botox and dermal filler (I always received staff gratis from my reps- I NEVER gave out Botox/fillers out of pocket). If they wanted to receive further laser treatments/facials they had to book the treatment on our appointment booking software and they had to either clock out or have the procedure done after hours. The person performing the procedure could only do the procedure during downtime or after hours. I was in direct contact with my injectable reps and they always made sure to send me product to use on the staff as needed, so I never had an issue with anyone stealing injectibles (plus we had a strict inventory of all injectible products)
As far as retail products, I always sold it to my staff at cost and would ask the product reps for gratis for the staff. Friends and family of the staff always received 25% off full priced products and services.
I hope I was able to help!
